First, the Selection and Setting of the Valve:

(1) The valves used on the water supply pipeline are generally selected according to the following principles:

1. When the pipe diameter is not more than 50mm, it is appropriate to use the globe valve. For pipe diameters over 50mm, gate valves and butterfly valves are preferred.

2. To adjust the flow or water pressure, regulating valves or stop valves should be used.

3. Areas requiring small water flow resistance (such as water pump suction pipes) should use gate valves.

4. For bidirectional water flow, gate valves and butterfly valves are recommended, while stop valves should be avoided.

5. Butterfly and ball valves are ideal for parts with limited installation space.

6. For sections frequently opened and closed, stop valves are suitable.

7. Multi-function valves should be used for large diameter water pumps.

Second: Valves in the Water Supply Pipeline:

1. At the junction of the municipal water supply pipeline to the residential area.

2. Nodes of the outdoor ring pipe network should have segmented valves based on separation requirements, especially if the pipe section is long.

3. Branch pipes from the main water supply or household pipes within residential areas.

4. Household pipes, water meters, and branch risers (bottom, vertical ring, upper and lower ends).

5. Main pipes of the ring network and connecting branch pipe networks.

6. Indoor pipes leading to households, public toilets, etc., with three or more distribution points on water distribution branches.

7. Water pump outlets and suction pipes of self-filling pumps.

8. Water tank inlets, outlet pipes, and drainage pipes.

9. Equipment water supply pipes (e.g., heaters, cooling towers).

10. Sanitary appliance distribution pipes (e.g., urinals, wash basins, showers).

11. Accessories such as automatic exhaust valves, pressure relief valves, water hammer eliminators, pressure gauges, sprinkler hydrants, and backflow preventers.

12. The lowest part of the water supply network should have a drain valve.

Third: Selection of Check Valves:

1. For low water pressure before the valve, swing, ball, and shuttle check valves are suitable.

2. For strict sealing after closing, choose a check valve with a closing spring.

3. For reduced water hammer, use quick-closing silencing check valves or slow-closing check valves with damping devices.

4. The valve break or spool of the check valve should be capable of closing automatically under gravity or spring force.

Fourth: Installation of Check Valves:

Check valves should be installed in the following sections of the water supply pipeline:

1. Lead-in pipes.

2. Inlet pipes of sealed water heaters or equipment.

3. Pump outlet pipes.

4. Inlet and outlet water pipes in tanks, water towers, and highland pools.

Note: Sections with pipe backflow preventers do not require additional check valves.

Fifth: Exhaust Devices in the Water Supply Pipeline:

1. For intermittently used water supply networks, place automatic exhaust valves at the network end and highest points.

2. In sections with air accumulation, install automatic exhaust valves or manual valves at peak points.

3. For pneumatic water supply devices with automatic air supply tanks, ensure automatic exhaust valves are at the highest point of the water distribution network.
