What Is Mist Equipment?

Mist equipment sprays water in a mist-like form over a wide area and is used for cooling and fire-extinguishing to prevent outdoor temperatures from rising. This equipment can lower outdoor temperatures by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. It pressurizes water and sprays it into the air, creating a dry mist that does not make the skin wet and causes no discomfort.

The misting effect lowers the ambient temperature by utilizing the vaporization heat phenomenon, where water evaporates and takes away heat. For cooling purposes, mist equipment is environmentally friendly as it doesn’t require an outdoor unit like air conditioners and doesn’t release heat outside.

The shape and characteristics of mist nozzles and pumps vary. Choosing the appropriate mist equipment for different purposes can enhance its effectiveness.

Uses of Mist Equipment

Mist equipment helps reduce temperature rise and can create partially cooler outdoor areas. Hence, it is often used in large facilities and places expecting large gatherings to prevent heat stroke. Additionally, it is used for disinfecting and cleaning livestock farms and waste disposal facilities by spraying mist-form disinfectants and chemicals. Mist equipment also helps prevent the inhalation of fine dust by incorporating dust into water molecules. It maintains a constant humidity level through its humidifying effect and is used in the entertainment industry for dramatic effects.

Principle of Mist Equipment

The cooling effect of mist equipment is based on the principle of the heat of vaporization. This is the heat absorbed from the surroundings to evaporate water, which lowers the temperature.

The system comprises a pump, nozzles, and water supply pipes. The pump applies high pressure to the water from the supply pipes and pushes it out through the nozzles to generate a fine mist. The fine mist easily vaporizes, producing a dry mist that doesn’t make the skin wet.

Structure of Mist Equipment

Mist equipment consists of several key components:

1. Mist Pump

The mist pump is the core of mist equipment. It pressurizes water and pushes it through a mist nozzle with a small jet diameter to create a fine mist. Higher pressure produces finer and more numerous water particles. For instance, using a high-pressure pump that pressurizes to nearly 7 MPa results in most mist particles being 5 microns or smaller, creating a dry mist that evaporates in the atmosphere and lowers the ambient temperature through heat of vaporization.

2. Mist Nozzle

Mist nozzles mix water pressurized by a mist pump with atmospheric air to atomize it and spray it. Nozzles vary by the diameter of the atomizing port. Smaller ports produce finer mist particles that vaporize easily and require less water for atomization.

3. Water Supply Pipe

The water supply pipe transports water from the source to the mist pump.

4. Filter

A filter in the water supply pipe prevents foreign matter or calcium from clogging the mist pump.

5. Drain

The drain removes water retained in the supply pipe after the mist equipment stops operating. It's installed in front of the mist pump to prevent water droplets from clogging the nozzle due to calcium build-up. Mechanical and electric drains are available, with electric ones relieving pipe pressure and draining water quickly.

6. Mist Fan

Mist fans increase the time mist drifts in the atmosphere, accelerating vaporization and extending the mist's cooling effect over a broader area.

7. Water Source

A water source is required to supply the pump. If using a water tank, ensure a pump can supply the required flow rate.

8. Power Supply

A power supply is needed to run the mist pump. Select one with sufficient electrical capacity for the pump used.
