2. The weight of the glass top will increase from 114 lbs to 171 lbs if I opt for a 3/8" instead of a 1/4" thickness. The hardwood table, a high-end model from Macy's furniture, has 4 corner legs and 2 center leaves supported by a sturdy mechanism underneath. Although the table is of excellent quality, I am concerned whether it can bear the weight of the 3/8" thick glass.
3. I am contemplating ordering 3 pieces of glass rather than one long piece to simplify cleaning underneath. This should also reduce costs since the smaller glass pieces usually cost less. Placing 3 pieces would create 2 gaps on the table, which I plan to cover with decorative linen to conceal them and protect the table from spills. This linen would absorb any moisture, making cleanup easier after meals. Another advantage of smaller glass pieces is that each part would weigh only 57 lbs, making it easier for the table to support. Feedback on this idea is welcome.
